• Project: Summa Health System - New West Tower Bus Shelter Competition

  • Location: Akron, Ohio

  • Firm: Perspectus Architecture

  • Project Types: Healthcare

  • Project Status: Incomplete

  • Place: Runner-up

  • Concept: A monolithic form which creates a unique eye-catching shape provides the base of the structure and anchors it to the site. Powered coated tapered steel tubes cantilever to support translucent panels providing coverage and shade. Exterior low profile linear lighting fixtures attached to the steel tubes provides visibility and safety at night. Materials used were chosen not only as a connection to the concrete drop-off canopy at the New West Tower, but also as an extension of the designed landscape and site. The profile of the monolithic form shares similarities to the retaining wall located on the great lawn adjacent to the oval drop-off drive. The shelter was also design to function on both sides of the structure providing additional seating and views towards the hospital.
